Women's Savings Association and the Women's Irrigation group established by EECMY-DASSC women's economic enhancement project

Aisha Abdullahi lives in Nano Bidre Kebele in Medewalabu Woreda of Bale Zone. after she joined the Women's Savings Association and the Women's Irrigation group established by EECMY-DASSC women's economic enhancement project where she received extensive training and experience . Aisha and her husband decided to start a private farm. With technical support from EECMY-DASSC, she bought a water pump and started irrigating her land. Within five months, she harvested 15 quintals of onions, 7 quintals of garlic, 3 quintals of pepper, 10 quintals of beans and 7 quintals of chickpeas which she sold for ETB 194,000. The cost of production was ETB 91,500 making her a net profit of ETB 102,500. After another five months, she earned 32 quintals of onion, 3 quintals of garlic and 38 boxes of tomatoes earning her a net profit of ETB 98,400. for the third time in a row.

EECMY-DASSC Nekemte Secondary Eye-care Clinic

Mrs. Teiitu Ifa (52) lives in Nekemte Kebele 04 and she has been an outpatient of Nekemte Secondary Eye-care Clinic for the last eight years. The clinic examined her and identified that her both eyes were developing cataract and the condition was getting worse and worse from time to time but it was a must to wait until the case gets matured enough for surgery. Finally, the bi-lateral eye surgery was conducted on May 22, 2023 effectively and her sight was successfully restored by which simultaneously renewed the hope and happiness of the couple. Tejitu said, “Before the last two weeks, my sight was gone to total darkness slowly from day to day, but the restoration has taken place miraculously within a day time. May God bless the Eye Clinic and you people who are engaged in the work.”

EECMY-DASSC climate resilience interventions

The commission has been implementing various cc mitigation and adaptation activities: awareness raising on CC, environmental protection, and NRM; soil, water, and vegetation conservation through biological and physical means; promotion of participatory forest management (PFM), agroforestry, low external input sustainable agriculture (LEISA); promote fuel/energy efficient stoves; and reduce the burden on the natural resource through promote alternative income generative activities and diversify livelihoods options. Through these all efforts, the commission significantly contributed to the reduction of climate change impacts.

Community Based Climate Resilience Program in Tigray

Within the last two conflict years in Tigray Region, The EECMY DASSC in collaboration with PADD had been implemented Community Based Climate Resilience Program . The Development goal of the program was contributing to the livelihood enhancement of the targeted community members in Enderta and Mekelle rural woredas of Tigray. To achieve this, the program addressed many activities under three core objectives were implemented. The target for most of the planned activities were met or exceeded. 1. Communities resilience to climate change in the intervention areas is enhanced. Through • Promote climate adaptation farming practices • Promote Natural Resource Management 2. Women’s household and youth decision making over household assets in the target areas is improved. Through • Empowerment and Income Diversification

EECMY-DASSC Bule Hora Humanitarian Multisectorial Assistance Project

EECMY-DASSC Bule Hora humanitarian multisectorial assistance project purchased and distributed 4 water pump with a total amount of 342,900 ETB to Muri Turkuma five irrigation groups in SES BO. The project carried out the provision of Farm tools and vegetable seed in order to strengthen farmers. The practical demonstration have also been complemented as a full package to meet the standard. To improve learning and teaching facilities in the conflict affected areas, 25 school desks also hand over to Toma Arda Ya'a primary school whereas, 90 female students also recieved reusable sanitary pad. A project was granted by Hungarian Inter Church Aid and we appreciated HIA for Grant and support.
